What is Skype?

Skype (pronounced to rhyme with ripe) is a is an extremely useful freeware telephony tool. It is a simple bit of software that lets you make VoIP (Voice over IP) calls via your internet connection, either via dial-up ( minimum 33.6 Kbps), or any broadband (cable, DSL, etc.)
PC-to-PC calls are free. Calls to regular phones (landline or mobile) are charged at low rates that are solely dependant on the destination country. To make PC-to-phone calls all that is needed is credit bought via SkypeOut credit. Skype user's can also receive calls from traditional phones (SkypeIn), and receive voicemail messages.

Installation and Registration
Skype's installation is easy and fast. I got everything setup in literally a few minutes. A user-friendly wizard walks you through registration. No need to answer an endless list of questions to be registered. You setup a username (ID) and password (extra personal information is optional). Then you can start adding contacts to your list as soon as you are logged in. It's so easy.
